Podkids Australia Episode 14 (August 2007)

As part of National Reading Day the Podkids have interviewed Western Australian author Elaine Forrestal. Elaine is the author of the novel Someone Like Me, which will be read by students all over Australia as part of National Reading Day. You can watch the interview by watching this month's special video podcast.

The Podkids have also set up an awesome website called 'A Place for Someone Like Me'. It includes chapter summaries, illustrations, a glossary and a place for people to discuss the book. Be sure to have a look at web.mac.com/nationalreadingday

Wednesday 5 September is National Reading Day, and our class is getting involved in a very special way!

The Podkids will be working with Elaine Forrestal, author of the award-winning book âSomeone Like Meâ to produce book reports that will be read by students all around Australia.

Elaineâs novel has been selected as one of five books that will be read by students all over the country. Our class will be reading the book early and producing on-line chapter summaries that will be available for other students to read and comment on. Elaine herself will be viewing the site and responding to the childrenâs posts. On 31 August, Elaine will visit the classroom and be interviewed for a podcast that will be released as part of National Reading Day.

The Podkids have scored their biggest media coup to date: An interview with the Hon Alan Carpenter MLA, Premier of Western Australia. Listen to Mr Carpenter answer the Podkids' tough questions and share his advice to the youth of today.

The Podkids are back for 2007, bigger and better than ever!

In this episode, the Podkids interview the Honourable Senator Helen Coonan, Federal Minister for Communications and Information Technology. We also report on a fire near our school, a delegation of Japanese teachers and our new project: Albert the Blogging Bear.

We also have a new group of Year 4s this years, so in this episode you will have a chance to meet the new Podkids.

This episode includes an interview with our local member of Parliament, Mr Stuart Henry. He sums up our school really well: "a community based school that is doing things on a global stage".

Our latest episode is a musical bonus show! We recorded the audio from our latest school assembly item in early July. During the assembly, we took our audience on an imaginary trip around the world, travelling to Japan, the USA, Africa and Australia.

The latest episode of Podkids Australia is a ripper!

We have been learning about New York, so Tayla will read you her narrative about New York, and Amelia will share her recipe for a healthy hamburger. We interview the Hon Sheila McHale MLA (Western Australian Minister for Indigenous Affairs; Tourism; Culture and the Arts), as well as Miss Terri Van Zetten from St Mary's College in Broome and Cameron's Dad Julian.

The show also includes Scott and Mathew's review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, a "Simpsons" story by Tyrin and Brandan, an enormous mailbag segment and some original music by Sonny Combs and Kitty Kat Rodeo.
